@RichieStrongTea It’s even worse when squatters move in. They hardly ever look after the property. Do you see the majority of squaters going around cutting the grass, watering the plants, cleaning the windows and maintaining the house? NO.
Squatters are nothing but a bunch of socialist scum, who have never done a decent days work in their lives. By promoting squatting you’re promoting this idea of everyone doing nothing all day and just relying on taking what isn’t legally theirs!
@RichieStrongTea yes but the court system takes time – where do you go in the mean time? Not everyone has the money to pay to go else where, plus some people may store all their money in their house.

A 94 year old woman on my road recently came out of hospital and found squatters in her house, they broke her wheel chair and her stair support system. They also smashed all her ornaments and burned her photos and memories.
This woman has worked all her life for that and they just come and ruin it? I think you would have to be a pretty sick person to justify such actions and for that reason i condem people like you, who promote such unlawful actions which are denounced by the majority of us.
@RichieStrongTea The most expensive areas of the best towns/cities are always 4 or 5 or more times more expensive than average incomes. That’s because those areas aren’t for average income people they’re for people of high incomes. That’s true of every city in the world. I’d love to be able to buy a £5m flat in W1 but I don’t earn enough to do it. The difference between me and you is that I applaud the guys who can afford it and I defend their right to do what they want with their own property.
@762SLR762 In some areas even the cheapest properties are 4 times the average income for a couple, but if there were more houses on offer then prices would lower. Empty homes contribute to the shortage. Lower prices for property is good news for those of us who do proper work for a living rather than speculate on property. Homes should be seen as exactly that – homes, not investments and a way to make easy money.
If there’s a valid reason for leaving a house empty for a long period, ask (or even pay) someone to look after it, rent it to someone you trust, or sell it – there are plenty of people looking for homes. Empty houses distort the property market
I think it’s fair to say that owners of long empty homes have done more to create the housing shortage than immigration has.
@RichieStrongTea Sorry but that’s simplistic garbage. even if I accept your analysis of what caused the banking crisis (which I don’t but that’s another argument) it’s as valid to say that borrowers should get real about what they can afford to pay instead of trying to maximise borrowings for that extra bedroom they don’t need or that 1/2 acre of land they can’t use. The responsibility on borrowing/repaying is the responsibility of the borrower not the lender.
Newspapers focus on the rare cases, ignoring the ones that have been empty for years. I know of no-one who’s been made permanently homeless by squatters. There was a recent case in the papers, but the occupants were former tennants who stopped paying rent, not (as they claimed) “squatters” at all.
“Property Rights” are bunkum when the majority of people are priced out of the opportunity of actually buying property.
@762SLR762 All householders need to do if their properties get tresspassed is to obtain a Court Order. The court will oblige, unless there is a good reason not to. It is sensible way to stop householders from putting themselves (or their dogs) in danger by trying to physically remove the squatters themselves – in the same way as people being expected to call the fire brigade to put out a large fireinstead of trying to do it themselves.
@762SLR762 Empty homes helped cause the housing problems we now face – they reduce supply, so that supply cannot met demand, thus pushing prices out of the reach of most British people. The banking crash was largely due to lenders giving people mortgages they could not afford to pay back, as a result of these stupid property prices. Empty homes are also a blight on the neighbourhood, esp if they are not maintained. No man is an island.

Can anyone explain to me why “squatting” isn’t illegal trespass and therefore a criminal offence? If it’s not your property and the owner finds you on it then one call to the police should get you thrown inside for criminal trespass. It can’t be that fucking hard. I swear if I found some stinking squatter in my place they’d meet Clancy and Mr Giggles first (both 100lb Rottweillers) and when they’d finished having their fun they’d be running from my Beretta.
